Inner Tube & Tyre Guide Information |
Inner tube sizes and valve types. This guide gives a basic description and purpose of the most common types of inner and valve shapes.
Picking the correct inner tube:
The inner tube size you require will depend on the size of tyre being used. The size of the tyre is often written on the sidewall, and a inner tube to fit this size range is required. Because inner tubes are very flexible they can fit a range of tyre sizes, expecially larger inner tubes. A inner tube will fit a range of tyres sizes, which is often printed on the tube but not always. Sometimes only the base tube size is printed on the tube (3.50-6) but it is still ment to fit a range of tyres sizes.
Valve Types:
Most Inner tubes on our website will come with TR13 straight rubber valve or a TR87 Bent metal Valve. For large diameter rims the TR13 is used. For small rims such as a 4" rim where access to the valve is restricted and therefor hard to attach an airline for inflation the bent valve is used. When selecting a product from this website the valve shape will be shown in the product image.
Picking the correct tyre:
There are a few ways for giving the size of tyres. Measurements given in inches and sometimes in millimetres or both. We have shown some examples below to help you recognise the size markings on your own tyre.
1* 3.00-4, 3.50-6, 4.00-6, 4.00-8
The first number denotes the width of the tyre and the height of the sidewall in inches. The "-" means that the tyre is of a crossply construction. The last number is the rim diameter in inches.
2* 4.10/3.50-4, 4.10/3.50-6, 5.30/4.50-6
Tyres Marked like above have four components. The first number is the width of the tyre. The second is the height of the sidewall and the third is the rim diameter. The "-" again means the tyre is a crossply. all figures are in inches.
3* 11X4.00-4, 13X5.00-6, 16x6.50-8, 18X8.50-8
Ride on mowers and ATV's often have there tyres marked this way. The first number is the outer diameter of the tyre in inches. The second is the width of the tyre in inches and the third is the rim diameter in inches. The "-" denotes the tyre is a crossply.
